Have you looked into your area Farmers Markets? Eating local is so good for you. Your body and the farmer benefit. Just like grocery shopping, try to have some kind of plan when you go to the farmers market. So you don’t overbuy and the produce goes bad. If you can, compost the scraps. It decomposes and you can add it to your gardens. Not necessary but I find it useful in bringing recyclable bags. The farmers have bags if you forget. It is all part of being GREEN.
All I did was Google Area Farmers Markets. These are a few that I got for my area. You can do the same.
If you saw the live Facebook while I was at the market, this is one of the recipes I am using.
Carrot & Beet Salad
1 – 2 medium beets
1/4 cup currants or raisins
1 navel orange, peeled and cut
1/8 cup toasted pine nut or walnuts
3 Tablespoons fresh mint or basil
1/4 cup red onion, diced
2 Tablespoons lime juice
3 – 4 Tablespoons Olive Oil
Celtic sea salt to taste
In a food processor, pulse carrots and beets until they are chopped pretty fine. I use the grater blade. Mix all other ingredients in a large bowl.
